Inside the shops: Baby, the Stars Shine Bright Monday, Aug 31 2009

Sorry for the wait on this set, but I took a lot of pictures of the Baby, the Stars Shine Bright. The San Francisco Baby store is the first in the US and only one of two retail locations outside of Japan.

BtSSB was packed on the opening day of Viz’s New People center. Excited lolitas filled the store clutching jumper-skirts and accessories–it was quite a sight! For those who couldn’t make the grand opening, here’s the scene just after the first wave of shoppers were allowed in…

The calm before the storm... Notice the lucky packs inside that Alice and the Pirates chest. That chest doesn't stay full for long!

Following the Black Peace Now, Black Peace Now for Men and Peace Now fashion shows, MTV Iggy’s Foxy brought Black Peace Now and Black Peace Now for Men designer, Satomi Imai to the stage for a Question & Answer session with Ms. Imai who was accompanied by a translator.

A transcript of the Q&A that took place Saturday, August 15 can be found below as well as video of the Q&A.

Host: Welcome to San Francisco. Congratulations on the opening of your U.S. flagship store right here at NEW PEOPLE Center. Please tell us about Peace Now and Black Peace Now and especially how they differ from other Lolita brands.

Ms. Imai: Peace Now and Black Peace Now are actually Gothic brands and not Lolita brands. I would say what makes us different from other brands in particular is that its really easy to wear and good for everydaywear and thus its a good brand to start with for beginners out there.

More Q&As, photos and video after the jump.

Real Lolita Style Interview @ NEW PEOPLE Opening Day Tuesday, Aug 25 2009

The first people in line to get into the NEW PEOPLE store, were made up of Lolita fashion enthusiasts hoping to score one of 50 tickets to a BABY, The Stars Shine Bright tea party. One of these ladies was Katie from Berkeley.

Name: Katie

Hometown: Berkeley, CA

Fashion theme of the day: I like pink, so I”m wearing pink. And, I wanted to try to wear some of the BABY, The Stars Shine Bright stuff I had, so I wore my blouse. I actually bought a skirt, so I’ll be wearing that. I like pink, so I try to wear a lot of pink.

What time did you get here today? I got here at 7AM and I was the 21st person to get in.

Did you come specifically for BABY, The Stars Shine Bright store? Yeah, and I wanted to see the whole mall. Also, the NEW PEOPLE store sells the Qpot jewelry, which I think is cute, so I wanted to see that too. But, yeah, BABY, The Stars Shine Bright – the line was so long that you had to wait for hours.

How long did you wait in the line at BABY, The Stars Shine Bright line to make your purchase? About 2 hours.

What did you purchase at BABY, The Stars Shine Bright? I got a blue BABY, The Stars Shine Bright skirt. I’m not too sure what the name of the print is. And I got some socks and a hairbow. I hope it fits, ’cause I didn’t get to try it on. I was rushing to get in line.

Why did you buy something today versus waiting a while? It was to get a ticket to the tea party.

When did you first get into Lolita fashion? I’ve liked it for 6-7 years, but I never really wore it until 2-3 years ago. I’ve admired it for a while.

Aside from visiting the BABY, The Stars Shine Bright, what was your favorite part of the opening day festivities? I liked the fashion show. That was fun to watch.

After the BABY, The Stars Shine Bright fashion show, the NEW PEOPLE stage featured a Question & Answer session with one of BABY’s designers, Kumiko Uehara. Foxy of MTV Iggy MCed the event and asked questions while a translator relayed Ms. Uehara’s answers to the crowd.

Here’s a transcript of the Q&A that took place Saturday, August 15. Video of the Q&A can also be found at the end of this post.

Host: Lets talk about BABY, The Stars Shine Bright and Alice and the Pirates. Especially, how they differ from other Lolita brands.

Uehara: So I wanted to let you know that BABY, The Stars Shine Bright is one of the oldest Lolita brands in existence. The point of the line is that it is very cute yet very sophisticated and elegant. And then as Alice and the Pirates, as the name implies, it refers to Alice in Wonderland who is of course cute. But what if she happened to find her way into a pirate world and gets to hang out with really cool pirates.

More Q&As after the jump.
