New Staff Member! New Advice Column! Thursday, Oct 15 2009

Some home Internet problems have been keeping me from posting and the blog has become quite stale because of it.  To help keep Carousel of Crowns fresh, we here at CoC have invited a new staffer to join the team – a gentleman advice columnist. He will be making a self-introductory post in due time, however, please join us in welcoming him.

We’re very lucky to have him join our humble little blog as he an expert on fashion, party planning, etiquette and tea-quette, so please send him any questions, quandaries or condundrums you have. Want to have a tea party, but can’t figure out how to brew a pot of tea? Need some advice on what present to give your Lolita-loving friend? Not sure how to accessorize an outfit (include pictures!)? Please send your burning questions, even those you think might be a little silly, to deercarouselofcrowns@gmail.com and he’ll post responses as soon as possible.

For purposes of suspense, we’re not telling you who this is yet. Any guesses?

King for a Day Monday, Sep 28 2009

Had to do something special for Umi’s birthday, so I spent the eve of International Umi Appreciation Day sewing a fabric crown out of upholstery velvet, fully-lined, complete with faux dalmatian fur and hair clips on the inside.

How cute is our little editor? She has no trouble keeping her subjects in line!

My crowning acheivement: Umi's present!

YesStyle.com, the website that sells clothing and accessory brands and from Asia, including Sechuna, My Little Thing Co. and Sweet & Co. which all stock items that will inexpensively add to any Lolita’s wardrobe, is opening up its first brick-and-mortar store in San Francisco this Saturday, September 26.

The store can’t possibly carry everything on the website, but here’s hoping they carry a portion of the cute stuff offered at YesStyle.com

Opening Day festivities start at 2 PM PT at Stonestown Galleria at 3251 20th Ave., San Francisco with an appearance by Miss Asian California, Victoria Pham and a few gifts with purchase for the first 10 and 100 customers.

Two versions of Angelic Prettys Milky-chan Fawn Coat in polkadots and solid

Two versions of Angelic Pretty's Milky-chan Fawn Coat in polkadots and solid

Last time we shared our top picks from the 2009/2010 Lolita winter coat collections. We’re continuing our coverage with a theme that was hard to miss – animal prints and motifs. Rabbit ears and leopard prints are old standbys that are accompanied by this year’s growing trend – fawns. But don’t make the mistake of thinking the brands aren’t taking risks, one succeeds in giving us a coat featuring an animal that is not at all predictable.

Fawns

First up, and pictured above, are the polka-dot and solid versions of Angelic Pretty’s Milky-chan Coat. On the left is the polka-dot print version with solid colored fur. On the right is the solid version with a spotted fawn print fur. The coat features an adorable Milky-chan applique and this may be an abosolute first for a piece of clothing that features a fawn-earred hoodie.

More after the jump.

Tokyo Rebel to Carry More Lolita Brands Monday, Sep 21 2009

A short while ago, we interviewed the owners of online Lolita and Japanese punk clothing retailer, Tokyo Rebel, about their plans to open a brick-and-mortar stor in New York City. More good news for Lolita fashionistas in NY, Tokyo Rebel has just announced that they’ll be carrying clothing from three more lolita brands. In October, Putumayo, Maxicimam and Innocent World will be sold by Tokyo Rebel in addition to Victorian Maiden, Atelier Pierrot, Algonquins and SEX POT ReVeNGe.

With this latest update, NYC Lolitas will be spoiled for choice of brands when they go out shopping.
